Curiosity (Almost) Killed My Writing Time

Curiosity (Almost) Killed My Writing Time

I sat down to write the other day and got so happily derailed. πŸ˜€ NaNoWriMo emailed me about their new beta site with a snazzy video about how it worked, then my sister emailed me about it, and then, of course, I had to go see what the buzz was all about.

GUYS, I LOVE IT. It’s still buggy of course because it’s a beta site, but I love what they’ve got so far.

Here are just a few of my favorite things…

Our profiles are so much prettier! Yay for header pictures, and I’m weirdly pleased with the little symbols next to favorite books and authors. πŸ˜‰ I’m also excited to see what my stats at the top are once I’ve written more on the new site. πŸ˜‰

The project pages are soooo snazzy! You can have one for each project with several goals nested under it, and there’s a spot for the cover to show up full size. πŸ˜‰ There are also a ton more genre options, and you can specify if your book is “Ready for Progress”, “In Progress”, “Drafted”, and so on. Really a lot of options. πŸ˜€ You can even mark a book as “Published”. Squee!!

Now comes my absolute favorite part–the wordcount updating tools! Not only can you update your wordcount after a session, but you can supply your mood while writing (thanks to the cute emojis), where and how you wrote, and what time of day you wrote as well. If you use their timer, it automatically records what time you begin and end. Eventually, it’ll be able to tell me what time of day (and where) I write best which is really exciting because I’m hoping to find out what time works best for me and capitalize on that. πŸ˜‰

I was so excited by this tool in particular, that I was actually more motivated to write than usual and knocked out another chapter and a half of “Imperfect”. Just 4k words from the end of draft one!!! ❀ Things are getting climactic. (Pray for me. πŸ˜€ )

Have you experimented with the new NaNoWriMo site yet? How do you like it?

  1. Hi Kate!
It’s me! I finally had a few minutes to read and comment on a post! I haven’t gotten on the NaNo site because I’ve never done more than Camp. But it sounds like some fun things have been added. (Not that I knew what it looked like before. πŸ˜‰ ) It’s so nice when you figure out when you write best because you can then try to keep that time open for writing. I have found that my best writing time has slightly changed over the years which I find interesting. πŸ™‚
Anyway, happy writing, and enjoy the climax of your story. πŸ™‚ I’m kind of in the same spot, though maybe closer to the end.

    1. Hi Rebekah! It’s nice to hear from you! πŸ˜€

Oh, that is interesting! They’re actually merging the Camp and the regular site (I believe) so I guess I’ll see you on there sometime. πŸ˜‰ Thank you! Oh, nice! Which story are you working on right now?

      1. Oh, fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what they are doing with the Camp site. πŸ™‚
I’m working on “Hymns in the Hills.” I’ve worked on it at camp a few times.

  2. Wow! I didn’t know that they updated the site, but it looks A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! πŸ˜€ I hope they update the Camp Nano site, too, since that’s the one I normally use. πŸ˜‰

    1. YES!!! I love it. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I’m not sure, but I think they’re actually merging the sites. You can sign into this site with your Camp NaNo information, and it will bring all your projects over.
