The 20-Question Book Tag

The 20-Question Book Tag

It’s been a pretty busy week for me with writing, weeding the yard, visiting three libraries with my family (two in one day just for kicks and the other for a super cool craft), attending a party just because it was something my character would do, and doing the other numerous, undefinable things that make up life. 😉

Yesterday, my brain said “No” about a blog post, but I still wanted to give you all one sometime this weekend. Lilian tagged me for this bookish tag today, and it looked like so much fun, I decided to do it. 😉 Thanks for the tag, Lilian!

1. How many books are too many in a series?

I usually get tired after five, but if the series is well-written and engaging without feeling stretched, there’s not a specific number. 😉

2. How do you feel about cliff-hangers?

Urmmm… If the book is generally satisfactory in its ending, I love a good “ooo, is that what the next book is about?” cliffhanger, but if the author is just trying to sell the next book without delivering a complete, good story in this one… Nope.

3. Hardback or paperback?

Paperback, actually! I find dust jackets awkward while reading. (Also, I stabbed the palm of my hand with the corner of a hardback book once so that’s probably influencing my answer. XD)

4. Favorite book?

Ha ha ha ha. *claps slowly* My Goodreads “favorites” shelf has 77 books on it right now…

5. Least favorite book?

I don’t like answering questions like this since #negativity, but if you’re looking for a good rant, there was that one that got me all fired up on Goodreads once…

6. Love Triangle… yes or no?

No, mostly. I don’t mind them if there isn’t a lot of drama surrounding it, but I’m getting a little tired of the trope.

7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

Tanglewreck by Jeanette Winterson. It looked fascinating (time tornadoes??!!), but the writing style, bizarre storyline, and some minor content things just made it one I didn’t want to stick with.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

Reintegration by Ashley Bogner. I have. Been. Waiting. For. This. It’s an intriguing book, and the cover is amazing too. 😀

9. The last book you recommended to someone?

Um… I do this a lot, so that’s hard to tell, but I think I made my brother read The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt yesterday. (Cute book, by the way! And smart too. 😀 )

10. Oldest book you’ve read (based on publication date)?

Besides the Bible, it looks like The Princess and the Goblin (1872) by George MacDonald is my oldest.

11. Newest book you’ve read (based on publication date)?

Shadowkeeper by Hope Ann (coming the 25th) is my newest, I think. I beta-read it. 😉

12. Favorite author?

Today I’m going with Sarah Holman. 😉 I have several other authors I like too.

13. Buying books or borrowing them?

Borrowing (because I love the library), but if it’s a must have or something hard to find, I like buying it. 😀

14. A book you dislike that everyone else loves?

Erm… more #negativity. A Fool and His Monet by Sandra Orchard (and sequels) were some well-loved books that were not my cup of tea.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

I usually memorize my page number, but a younger sister made me bookmarks for Christmas, so I’ve started using those some.

16. A book you can reread over and over?

I’ll go with The Shield Ring by Rosemary Sutcliff. I love it. 😉

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Nope. All thought goes from my head when there are lyrics, and if it’s an instrumental, I probably need to drop my book and dance. 😀

18. Multiple POVs or one POV?

I’m really okay with any number of point-of-views, as long as they are well done and distinct from each other. 😉

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days on average?

I am quite able to read a book in one sitting, but I’m trying to train myself to savor. 😉

20. Who do you tag?

Anna @A Storynerd’s Life

Lydia @Noveltea

Mikayla @Ordinary Girl, Extraordinary Father

You @If You Want To

Okay, see you all next week. 😉

  1. Your answers were so fun to read, Kate! I love the mention of The Shield Ring (I’m predictable!), and I can’t listen to music while reading, either. I need quiet or white noise, and if noise from outside the room reaches my ears, my focus scatters and reading is difficult.

  2. That was an interesting 20 question book tag. I tend to think a series should be limited. I have read a lot of series and after a while the characters get to be annoying and out of character. Thanks for this post.

  3. 1. How many books are too many in a series?
When you get to like 30+ because then it’s really hard to get them all!

    2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
They’re great! I’ve never read a book that ended on a cliffhanger, but I like chapters that end on cliffhangers. 😉

    3. Hardback or paperback?
Paperbacks, unless the hardcover is really much prettier.

    4. Favorite book?
Oh dear…. One of them is “Basic Principles of Speech” by William Trufant Foster & Lew Sarrett.

    5. Least favorite book?
Oh, I don’t know… maybe “Ways of Nature” by John Burroughs. It got a 1-star review.

    6. Love Triangle… yes or no?
If it’s well done… I’m not a big fan of romance as the focus of the book though.

    7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?
Er… I have no idea? Probably a school book which explains why I couldn’t finish it. ;P

    8. A book you’re currently reading?
    Several… ;P

    9. The last book you recommended to someone?
I’m not sure… maybe “The Railway Children” by Edith Nesbit. 10000% recommended!!

    10. Oldest book you’ve read (based on publication date)?
Oh I have NO idea. Maybe a Shakespeare play??

    11. Newest book you’ve read (based on publication date)?
Ehm…. maybe “Finding Christmas Joy” by Amanda Tero.

    12. Favorite author?
Louisa May Alcott, among others. ^_^

    13. Buying books or borrowing them?
I’d rather buy so I have my own copy, but if I can borrow, I’ve nothing against that… xD

    14. A book you dislike that everyone else loves?
The opposite question would be much easier lol… I don’t know. I’m not a very picky reader, aside from my beliefs.

    15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?
    Neither.

    16. A book you can reread over and over?
“Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell was the first that came to mind. However, I reread almost every single book I’ve read. I LOVE rereading.

    17. Can you read while listening to music?
Yes! It’s very helpful to concentration. 😉

    18. Multiple POVs or one POV?
    It doesn’t bother me.

    19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days on average?
Depends how long it is, how much I’m interested in it, and what’s going on in my life. I do like to read at least two books at the same time so I can switch when I get bored of one.
