Plate Update: Chocolate, Thunderbirds, and New Release

If you’re new here (HI!!!!!), I should probably explain what in the world this recurring series is. πŸ˜‰ Three years ago (today), I posted about how full my “plate” was, complete with a hilariously bad picture of me with a literal plate. Since then, I’ve been using the title “Plate Update” for a monthly check-in with my readers where I report what I’ve been doing, reading, researching… etc. πŸ˜‰

Last month’s full plate was actually a bowl of celebratory ice cream. πŸ˜‰ *waves to June* (You were awesome, by the way, June.) Look, it’s July! We’re officially halfway through this year! πŸ˜€

Anyway, here’s a quick update on my full plate last month.Β πŸ˜‰

Pleasure read:

All Is Calm/All Is Bright (three stars, closer to two)

Kate’s Innocence (five stars, re-read)

If the Magic Fits (three stars)

Kate’s Capitol (five stars, re-read)

Read for review:

Quest for Leviathan (three stars)

Phantoms (four stars)

Answered:

Mostly EMAAAAIIILLSSS (I had no idea how many it takes to set up a blog tour!)

Author and character interviews

Questions in a live Q & A video with my author sibs

Googled:

Unreal chocolate gems

Ages on headstones

Books on Murph’s shelf in Interstellar πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

The Weight of Glory sermon

Percentage of an Amazon book sample

Little Women 2017 ❀

The world’s longest title

Age differences between the March sisters

How to format texting in a book

Wrote:

Book acknowledgments

Guest posts for the blog tour πŸ˜‰

Book reviews (I’m still catching up XD)

Keywords on Amazon listings for my book (you have no idea how hard this is)

Blog posts (the top five being everything blog tour related, Just What This Reader Ordered…, The Proof Is in the Copy, He Knows My Name, and A Day in My Life As An Author.)

Edited:Β

β€œKiera” for the final time!! πŸ˜€

Miscellaneoused:

Chose my summer reading πŸ˜‰

Enjoyed Little Women (2017) with my own Marmee and sisters ❀

Brainstormed character details with a friend (#newstory)

Coordinated an entire blog tour and released my book *collapses*

Laughed my head off over Incredibles 2

Sewed some ❀

Gave wagon rides to incredibly heavy nephews

I also drew dragon battles and daring water rescues for my nephew's on a write-on wipe-off board.Β πŸ˜‰Β I also watched my dad set off the world's absolute best firework, was encouraged and convicted by the movie "The Man Who Invented Christmas" (and laughed some too πŸ˜‰ ), and dove headfirst into the "Thunderbirds Are Go" (reboot) fandom.

This next month, I’m looking forward (maybe) catching up on book reviews, continuing my summer reading, and participating in a book booth with the Generation Rising team at the homeschool convention. πŸ˜‰ Also, more fireworks.

How was your June?Β What are you looking forward to this month?

      1. One of the best tips I’ve heard is to freewrite on a random scrap of paper EVERY possibility of where the story can go. It can get a little crazy, but you just might find an idea that works. πŸ˜€ I did this whenever I had to write on a schedule for my creative writing class and come up with a short story idea.

      2. Right?!! πŸ˜€ I’m not sure, but I think Shakespeare may have written a book based on this list. πŸ˜‰

I like to do this with a specific story instance. So supposed our fictional character (call him Timothy) gets a mysterious note. It could be a death threat and the police pick him up for protective custody. It could be the President inviting him to the White House. Or it could be a note from a secret admirer. Takes the story in a lot of different directions!

  1. I should probably stop reading this stuff. You’re far too disciplined and effective. Most of my daily energy is directed towards restraining myself from taking naps! πŸ˜›

Anyway, do you have some infinity towards books about a Kate…? That seems to be reoccurring.

    1. Oh, sorry. I’ve considered doing away with the series completely, since that seems to be a common response. πŸ™‚ Take notes on your month sometime–you may be surprised. I never know I’ve done this much until I’ve looked at it all at once.

Ha, ha! The heroine does share my name, but she is very different from me. They are FBI stories written by a favorite author, so that’s pretty much the reason I like them so much.

      1. lol. No! Don’t do away with it. I know where you’re coming from and I’m sure this does more good than harm! My internet browser crashed in the middle of homework this morning… so I got to redo that! Story of my life. No wonder I don’t get anything done! But I know I do… it’s just exhausting sometimes! (And It’s kinda funny for an adult to throw a temper tantrum at the loss of homework)

      2. Oh, wow. I know what that’s like! As if the homework itself weren’t stressful enough–add in technology. I pray you get it turned in on time with some sanity left.

    1. Hey Grace! Thanks for asking! 2 out of 5 of my judges have gotten back to me, and I’ll bother the other tomorrow. I’m as anxious for the results as you all are. πŸ˜€ Happy Independence Day!

  2. These posts are so fun. They are quick to read and fun to see. And don’t take up much time for me. And I’m reading it before it’s a week old! πŸ™‚
